Youth club poster idea mockup and animated version for social media.
The initial brief asked for a static printed poster, which meant that it was in effect a closed brief. To be able to respond to any brief successfully, I first need to delve deeper to gain a broader perspective and understanding of what a client is ultimately trying to achieve. My goal would be to develop a set of proposals that takes any underlying obstacles or hidden opportunities into account, which in turn would lead to finding the solution that best meets my client's needs.
Firstly, I would start by researching the audience's culture, preferences, behaviour and trends they may be familiar with. In this case the brief was aimed at teenagers (a.k.a. Gen Z), who's preferred medium is digital media; more specifically: video. Gen Z-ers seem to be very picky about the information they consume, and authenticity plays a strong role in what they choose. They want to be a part of of something special, and have a very fine-tuned radar for inauthenticity.
Generally, they have a short attention span. Design needs to be eye-catching and restricted to key points to get their attention, and if it is a video it needs to not last longer than 8 seconds or even less, or your design will just get swiped away.
Because Gen Z-ers grew up in a digital world, there is a craving for the tangible and analog media among them. This might make a point to create a tactile, physical poster, or it could mean that digital images/design needs to imitate analog media.
