This photobook is an exploration of how the form of the book provides us with a chance to apply a stable order to photographs. The images no longer stand alone, neither do they serve as illustrations, but rather form part of a photographic narrative. The book itself becomes the artwork, with its physicality and tangibility forming an intrinsic part of this narrative.
My paper choice is Mohawk Proline paper, which has a natural feel that reflects the rawness of the subject matter.
My main photographic influences for this project was Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Although their approaches may seem contradictory, both welcomed chance to play its role in the "decisive moment."  Because of these influences I decided to honour the tradition of black and white photography.
I chose an 8 x 10 inch portrait book format, because of the pleasing white space proportions it creates around the images, which were all shot in 2 x 3 format.
This book is also a showcase of my layout- and typographic skills: Balancing images and text across the double-page spread.
